1959 Wurlitzer 120 Electric Piano

Rent this rare, tube amplified piano for a unique sound

Ray Charles: What’d I Say

Any Wurlitzer can inspire thoughts of Ray Charles, but the model he used on that legendary recording was the Wurlitzer model 120.  This is a tube-amplified version that has a raw, warm tone synonymous with his playing.  You can immediately tell the difference when compared with more modern Wurlitzers, that this early edition has a soul all of its own.

1959 Wurlitzer 120 Electric Piano

This is the model used by Ray Charles on “What’d I Say” with a unique, very early electric piano sound – vibrato was not even introduced yet.  It is not as polished and refined of an instrument as the 200 series being this is one of the first iterations of any electric piano, but if you’re looking for that early soul sound, you’ll be playing this “til you feel all right.”
